The Kindness Kind Live @ The Crocodile, Seattle Video!

The Kindness Kind "Suckerpunch" from The Crocodile on Vimeo.
Up and coming Seattle band The Kindness Kind perform an acoustic version of their song "Suckerpunch". I particularly like the xylophone and the whistling. Pretty cool.

Union of Knives Working on New Album with NIN Collaborator Atticus Ross!

Glasgow, Scotland indie group Union of Knives is back with a new album and a new single. "Doing Drugs" is a roaring and soaring new single that shows off an edgier sound that is probably in part to them working with Atticus Ross who has collaborated with Trent Reznor on many NIN albums as well as his own work. Union of Knives is the second band to turn to NIN personnel to produce their albums after Ladytron recruited NIN keyboardist Alessandreo Cortini to produce their 2008 album "Velocifero".

The Hundreds and Thousands Release new Single "Rat Race"!

Canadian group The Hundreds and Thousands have released their debut single "Rat Race" from their Self-Titled Debut to be released May 26. The track has the galloping epic drama of Muse, some guitar work reminiscent of the razor sharp licks of Les Savy Fav, and good blue collar shouting backing vocals that should get the indie kids and the punk kids shaking their way to the dance floor. Is May here yet?

Heroes of the Dancefloor Donate Proceeds of New Album to the Homeless!

Scissor Sisters side project Heroes of the Dancefloor has dedicated their entire album, "Torch", publication rights and royalties included, towards helping the homeless. The money will go to two NYC charities; Picture the Homeless and Coalition for the Homeless. The band was inspired to do this because the number of Homeless people in NYC has risen 11% and the number of homeless children in NYC has risen 14%. Suddenly thier name seems very appropriate.

Emanuel and the Fear is the product of Brooklyn based indie-popster Emanuel Ayvas and 11 of his orchestral minded buddies. Together they make some tunes with the propulsion of Ra Ra Riot and diversity of the Polyphonic Spree. Either way they're sure to help you keep your head up the rest of today, if not the rest of the week!

Free! Throcke's "Sometimes Not Unpointful"

Chris Carson is a musician from Brooklyn who goes by the name of Throcke. His music is a collection of strange electronic sounds and fuzzed out vocals. For a limited time you can download his album "Sometimes Not Unpointful" for free at his official site. The album is something like a lo-fi combo of James Figurine and The Berg Sans Nipple. Act now before it's too late!

Dan Black of the Servant Returns!

Dan Black of the Servant has returned with a new single called "Alone", and I'm glad he's back. I didn't even know that The Servant had broken up, luckilly Mr. Black made up a substantial amount of the band's sound so his solo efforts are thoroughly satisfying. Let's hope that he doesn't leave us alone for a good long while.

Live! Stars at Ithaca State Theatre!

Stars graced the town of Ithaca with it's presence yesterday and I count myself fortunate to be among those who were present. The trip down was relatively painless despite the cold and a pit stop for an impromptu bathroom break in the creepy desolation of a roadside forest. I joined the throng of cleverly coiffed individuals making their way to the Ithaca State Theatre where Kevin Devine was already onstage amidst many instruments adorned in decorative flowers. He made his way through a spirited acoustic performance, pouring his heart out into two microphones, at varying distances for effect, even though the lights were still on and and most of the audience was still talking and drinking. He made several great attempts at connecting with the crowd though, one was by throwing out Sean Hannity's name for a laugh and coming up short. It was when the typical college doof shouted out "Freebird" that he scored. After responding; "Oh yeah, no one has ever requested that song before..." he began the first verse to joyous cheers from the audience.

Soon after, Stars took to the stage and all those college kids who had been drinking and socializing migrated to the front of the stage where Torquil Campbell, Amy Milan, and company launched into a rendition of "The Night Starts Here". Which was followed by a powerful performance of "Take Me To The Riot". The band paused for a moment for Torquil and Amy to connect with the audience. "This is our first show with President Obama!" exclaimed Torquil, "We're not far from you Ithaca, up in Montreal, we share your snow and your wind" Amy said before they played a few more songs off of their last full length "Our Bedroom After the War" and some new tracks off of their "Sad Robots EP". In between songs Torquil and Amy showed off their shimmering chemistry, reminiscent of Ana Gasteyer and Will Ferrell's High School music teacher characters, as they roughed out a request from an earlier album that wasn't nearly as embarrasing as Torquil thought that it was.

Flowers and petals regularly flew off the stage from various band members finding a break in their energetic songs to hurl them into the crowd. Stars were definitely having fun as they played their hits "What I'm Trying to Say", "Bitches in Ithaca (Or Tokyo!), "Ageless Beauty" and many more. Torquil in particular sprang around the stage engrossed in some meticulous mischief whether it was creating noise on a microkorg, melodica, or trumpet.

After they finished off their set, Stars left the stage to riotous applause from the crowd of college kids. Whose cheers morphed into the Queen "We Will Rock You" beat. The band took the stage once more to encore with "My Favourite Book" which led to a caucouphenous interlude into an epic turn on their tune "Calendar Girl" which ended with Torquil bouncing around the stage screaming "I'm alive!" Everybody in the Ithaca State Theatre that night was surely reminded that they were too.
